Kobold Press Issues No AI Pledge for Game Design and Art

Kobold Press CEO Wolfgang Baur has officially announced the company’s firm stance against the use of AI-generated content in its games. In a recent State of Play article, Baur outlined the company’s "No AI" policy, which bans the use of AI tools in the creation of game design, art, maps, and storytelling.

Baur explains that while AI may be prevalent across various industries, it doesn't belong in the world of tabletop roleplaying games. The joy of RPGs, according to Kobold Press, comes from creating original worlds, characters, and stories with friends—not from machine-generated content.

Since 2022, Kobold Press has rejected AI tools like Midjourney, citing concerns over AI being trained on copyrighted works without permission. Instead, they proudly support their talented artists and game designers, ensuring that all content is human-made and thoroughly playtested.

Kobold Press's commitment is clear: AI won’t be part of their creative process. The company believes in empowering game masters and players to fuel their own creativity, keeping the spirit of tabletop gaming alive through human-made content.

Players who support this stance can sign their name in support of Kobold Press’s pledge to keep AI out of their games.
